Purslane is an annual broadleaf weed that grows in a mat-like shape, choking-out lawns, vegetables and flowers. It is succulent with reddish-brown stems and small green leaves that have a rubbery texture. Small yellow flowers bloom from late spring through summer. Purslane thrives in hot, dry weather—the stems and leaves store water, allowing this weed to sustain during drought.
